Taking Stock

By Carol Heath

With the new year beginning people are taking stock of what President Trump has accomplished since his inauguration in January of 2017. In fact, it seems to be one of the top stories of the day. I thought I would jump in on the reindeer games, even though Christmas is over and the reindeer are probably back wherever reindeer go after Christmas. Whether you love or hate President Trump, you can't deny the list of accomplishments he has achieved since his inauguration last January.

On November 8, 2016, presidential candidate Donald Trump held his final campaign rally in Ann Arbor, Michigan at 1 a.m. on election day. He said the following words in the wee hours of the morning:

“Just imagine what our country could accomplish if we started working together as one people, under one God, saluting one American flag.  I’m asking you to dream big because with your vote we are just hours away from the change you’ve been waiting for your entire life.  So to every parent who dreams for their child and to every child who dreams for their future, I say these words to you tonight.  I am with you.  I will fight for you, and I will win for you.  I promise.”

President Trump has accomplished the following significant items in his almost 1st year in office:

  1. The Stock Market is at a record high, and it took the DOW just 66 days to climb from 19,000 to above 21,000, the fastest 2,000  point run ever. The US Stock Market gained $2 trillion in wealth, and the S&P 500 broke $20 trillion for the first time in history.

  2. The US Debt has decreased by 1 million dollars.

  3. The US Manufacturing Index climbed to a soaring 33 year high.

  4. Jobs rose by 298,000, in President Trump’s first month in office.

  5. Housing sales are red hot once again with the average house taking just 45 days to sell, compared to the 84 days in previous years.

  6. Illegal immigration is down 67%.

  7. NATO announced that Allied spending rose to $10 Billion because of President Trump.

  8. Presidential nominee, Judge Neil Gorsuch, a Constitutionalist, was confirmed in early April and became part of the Supreme Court.

  9. President Trump has signed 66 executive orders, memoranda, and proclamation as of April, including:

    * Notifying Congress of a strike on Syria after it was reported that the country used gas on its citizens.
    * Dismantling Obama’s climate change initiatives.
    * Travel bans for individuals from a select number of countries embroiled in terrorist atrocities.
    * Enforcing regulatory reform.
    * Protecting Law enforcement.
    * Mandating for every new regulation to eliminate two.
    * Defeating ISIS.
    * Rebuilding the military.
    * Building a border wall.
    * Cutting funding for sanctuary cities.
    * Approving pipelines.
    * Reducing regulations on manufacturers.
    * Placing a hiring freeze on federal employees.
    * Exiting the US from the TPP.

And finally, arguably his biggest accomplishment, signing the largest tax bill in history.

As previously stated, these are just the most significant things President Trump has accomplished in his tenure so far as President of the United States.  Actually, President Trump has signed some 81 legislative items and whether you agree with all of them or even consider them accomplishments, really makes very little difference. The bottom line - it is a record, previously held by President Harry Truman, that now belongs to President Donald Trump.

All these achievements were completed in spite of a hostile press and media, which seldom reported anything positive, but was quick to attack what they viewed as negative. Think back on his words in that final rally in Ann Arbor, just think if we all worked together as one people, under one flag just how great we could be.
